Hard X-Ray Synchrotron Radiation Optics

This course is intended to provide a basic understanding of hard x-ray (E>3 keV) optical components used at synchrotron radiation sources. The course will begin with an overview of the relevant properties of synchrotron radiation (spatial, angular, spectral, polarization, and power distributions). The physics and applications of total external reflection optics (mirrors) and single crystal optical components (monochromators, phase retarders, high resolution monochromators, etc.) will make up a large portion of the course. The remaining time will be allocated to discussions of addition optical components of interest such as multilayers, zone plates, and others. Prerequisites: Undergraduate Electromagnetism and undergraduate Physics.
