Course:

Fundamentals of Superconducting Materials Applied to Accelerators - course cancelled

Instructors:

David Larbalestier, Alex Gurevich and Peter Lee, University of Wisconsin

The basic physics of type II superconductors will be reviewed (Ginzburg Landau phenomenology, critical fields and temperatures, flux pinning and thermal depinning of flux), followed by extensive descriptions of the manufacture and properties of the important low temperature superconductors (Nb-Ti, Nb3Sn, and Nb3Al) and high temperature superconductors (YBCO and BSCCO). A final module on superconducting property measurements will be given.   Prerequisites: Electromagnetism and solid state intro courses.
